Today, for our 12th Day of Christmas, we’re focusing on keeping in God’s PEACE and JOY, from the presence of the Lord (and being “on-guard against 7 common “enemies” of God’s peace and joy, through God’s Word).
What are 7 “ENEMIES” of God’s peace and joy?
1. Sin and separation from God
2. Striving in our Flesh
3. Taking “Control” in areas that we need to give to God
4. Fear and Worry (about money, our kids, the future)
5. Unforgiveness, Bitterness, and Strife
6. Hurt, Brokenness, or Abuse
7. Not abiding in Christ (keeping in His presence)
No God. No Peace.
Know God. Know Peace.
“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” –Matthew 1:23
Today, for our 11th Day of Christmas, we’re focusing on getting a Global mission-vision for our family. We’re going to look a the missionary Christmas story of Lottie Moon (1840-1912) and how God so beautifully revealed His heart for all people through Christ’s BIRTH.
Mission-Minded Christmas Carols:
Go Tell it on the Mountain
Joy To the World
Hark the Herald Angels Sing
O Come, O Come Emmanuel
Daring Daughter Example Lottie Moon
Missionary to China (1840-1912) — She gave everything, on Christmas
In 1912, during a time of war and famine in China, missionary Lottie Moon gave and gave, not counting the personal cost. She urgently wrote home for help, but to no avail; the mission board was heavily in debt and unable to send anything.
Lottie’s sharing of her personal finances and food with anyone in need severely damaged her physical and mental health. Fellow missionaries became alarmed and arranged for her to be sent home. However, as her ship docked in Japan, Lottie died . . . on Christmas Eve.
“And above all things have fervent love for one another…”
–I Peter 4:8 NKJV
Today, for Day #10 of our 12-Days of Christmas Bible Study, our focus is GOD'S PSSION and LOVE. Let’s keep our relationship with God simple and real. Like a genuine flame in a little match or candle, let’s allow God’s real PASSION to ignite in our hearts . . . and to spread to others.
Quotes by A. W. Tozer, author of The Pursuit of God
“What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
“The believing man does not claim to understand. He falls to his knees and whispers, “God.” The man of earth kneels also, but not to worship. He kneels to examine, to search, to find the cause and the how of things.”
“To have found God and still to pursue Him is the soul’s paradox of love, scorned indeed by the too-easily-satisfied religionist, but justified in happy experience by the children of the burning heart.”
“Others before me have gone much farther into these holy mysteries than I have done, but it my fire is not large it is yet real, and there may be those who can light their candle at its flame.”
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." --Jesus (Matthew 6:21)
Today, for Day #9 of our 12-Days of Christmas Bible Study, we're focusing on POVERTY and POSSESSIONS. What does God have to say about material blessings and what does God's Word teach us about giving to the poor and helping the needy?
“You can give without loving,
but you cannot love without giving.”
Today, for Day #8 of our 12-Days of Christmas Bible Study, we’re focusing on God’s way of GIVING. Let’s give with love, generosity, hospitality, and cheerfulness!
Is it FAIR that we are so blessed, or that we have peace, or that we have God's salvation? This episode -- Day #7 of our 12-Days of Christmas, Mission-Minded Families focuses on God's justice and mercy and the power of Jesus bringing God's LOVE and reconciliation to this world. This podcast includes mission-minded Christmas stories and examples of action and compassion.
John 1:14 is a beautiful verse about Jesus. The Bible tells us, "And the WORD became flesh and dwelt among us, and we behold His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."
Jesus is called the WORD of God. At Christmas time, we can learn to love and know the Lord more by growing in our LOVE for Him and for His Word, the Bible. We can teach our children to read God's Word, to memorize it, to think about it, to sing about it, to study and speak about it, and as we do, to know HIM more. A great place to start is by memorizing the Christmas story in Luke 1:1-20.
For today's 5th Day of Christmas with Ann Dunagan - our focus is God's GRACE. What is God's grace all about? How can we grow in God's grace? Whether you feel totally inadequate or completely self-sufficient, God wants you to grow in His grace.
On our 4th Day of Christmas, we're looking at the biblical example of ANNA (from Luke 2) - a woman of prayer and faith, who recognized baby Jesus (when he was dedicated in the temple) as the promised Messiah of Israel. Anna was a godly woman who loved the presence of the Lord. Come listen an be encouraged to focus on the true meaning of Christmas, with a mission-minded focus.
In today's podcast, we're looking at the beautiful faithfulness of Elizabeth. It's Day 3 of our 12-Days of Christmas Bible study, from a mission-minded perspective. Listen and be encouraged!
In the Bible, Mary said, "My soul magnifies the LORD and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior" (Luke 1:46-47). Today, Day #2 in our 12-Days of Christmas Bible study is focused on 5 Keys for Mission-Minded Families from the example of Mary the mother of Jesus: Grace, Faith, Humility, Simplicity and Obedience. Like Mary, let's DARE TO OBEY, and respond with an attitude that says, "Behold the maidservant of the LORD, be it to me according to Thy Word (Luke 1:38).
For Day #1 of our 12-Days of Christmas Bible study, our focus is SALVATION: thanking God for His gift of salvation through the cross of Jesus Christ, and praying for the salvation of each of our children and all of our loved ones.
Today's theme is also SURRENDERING everything in our own lives to God, including all of the details of this Christmas season: all of our concerns, worries, fears, frustrations, plus all of the fun plans and happy anticipations. Let's remember to PRAY for each person we care about along with others who need Jesus (both in our sphere of influence and for people around the world). Let's remember to invite the PRESENCE of the Lord into this beautiful season of joy and celebration.
Come listen to the podcast vision for Mission-Minded Families -- along with an introduction to the Dunagan family.
